Traditional Portuguese Mahogany Blanket Box Chest

These deep, ornate chests are a longstanding feature in Portuguese homes, not least for their practical value. Chests are often beautifully carved and the generous proportions are perfect for storing linens, cushions, blankets etc.

 

This one above was sanded, primed and hand-painted in a custom blend of Fusion Mineral Paint to provide a neutral grey/green colour.  I also applied a light glaze and a touch of gilding for extra dimension. The original solid brass hardware was completely cleaned and refinished and the inside has been trimmed in a William Morris print wallpaper decoupage. To ensure durability and protection, the chest has had several coats of water-based topcoat.
